Back Home

I never thought I'd see the day when I actively sought out the successor to the infamous Internet Explorer but today it seems hell has frozen over.

After booting my work computer up this morning I was greeted with the message that Google Chrome had updated itself to v.140. OK, great, at this point I know the routine. I need to go in to chrome://flags and enable the previous version stuff and re-toggle the Manifest V2 stuff. But this time was different. After doing this and restarting the browser, uBlock Origin was still not working.

Turns out, you now have to enable developer mode in Chrome and download the beta plugin from Github. Unfortunately, this is just a step too far for me in terms of an inconenience and I went searching for an alternative browser.

I had heard some of my collegues talking about how MS Edge has improved so much over the years but as a grey beard who remembers the days of Internet Explorer, I was very hesitant to adopt another browser from Microsoft. But Microsoft has put out some good products of late so I was willing to give it a try. And that is how I ended up back on the MS bandwagon. We'll see how long I stay on it but so far I can't complain. The browser is responsive, all my plugins work and it mostly just stays out of the way, like any self respecting tool should.
